Deep Vision was tested on a CRISP cruise with “G.O. Sars” earlier this year. See the underwater vision system in action in a YouTube video from the cruise.Deep Vision is an underwater vision system that can automatically classify the length and species of fish inside a trawl. The system has been developed in close cooperation with Institute for Marine Research (IMR) in Bergen and features as part of Centre for Research-based Innovation in Sustainable Fishing and Pre-processing technology (CRISP).In March this year Deep Vision was in operation on a CRISP cruise with "G.O. Sars" northwest of the Northern Cape. The main object of the cruise was to learn more about how cod moves inside the trawl. Footage from Deep Vision is featured in the video from the cruise. Images from the system in action shows how it can be a valuable tool in the assessment of fish stock.The current use of Deep Vision is primarily for research purposes but may in the future be used in commercial fisheries for selection fish according to specie and size. A pilot version of the system is close to being released commercially.Related:
